What’s the difference between single coil and dual coil subwoofers?
i was looking up subwoofers to get for my car and i came across this question. i’ve only noticed that the dual coils are more expensive. is it worth the price difference?
You have more options when you have a dual voice coil. You can still change the impedance of single coil speakers, but it is really not a good idea. You are basically getting more power out of the dual voice coil and more wiring options. Also, you can mono block the duals and you shouldn’t do that with single…Good luck.

Single coil has a fixed impedance. A duel coil gives you the choice of two impedances. If you know what impedance your amp is designed for, there’s no need for a duel coil woofer.

Dual voice coiled subwoofers give you more flexibility in wiring options. In most cases, a dual voice coil sub shouldn’t cost more then it’s single voice coil counterpart, but there are exceptions.
Typically – the subwoofer specs as far as power handling, sensitivity, etc are the same for both.
